A Mt Albert reader thought the airbrushed picture of Garth George in yesterday's paper was handsome. "I enjoyed the digital-improvement of George's photo, by way of a dig at the Prime Minister's airbrushed campaign photos ... It was clever, but I am getting a little tired of people banging on about her picture and not realising its inherent sexism. You only have to look at the media coverage about Sarah Palin to see it. Newsweek magazine deliberately used a close-up of Palin showing a chipped tooth, wrinkles and the beginnings of a wispy moustache as a put-down. Reuters ran tasteless pictures taken through Palin's legs and from behind to make it appear that male members of the audience are looking up her skirt. A pornographic movie with a Palin look-alike called Nailin' Palin has surfaced (yes, the title is mildly amusing). Her politics aside, this must be hard to deal with. I know one local blogger who used his Photoshop skills and pathologic hatred of Labour to put Helen's image in pornographic context ... Garth fails to realise that the very people who are complaining about her softer image are the very people who complained about her not looking feminine enough. Damned if you do ... "

Barack Obama has been spotted in Burnout Paradise on the XBox 360. The ad shows Obama next to a message directing voters to voteforchange.com, a site that gives information about how to register and where to vote. Autoblog.com comments: "Too bad Obama has cited video games as an obstacle to a good education ... and there's no confirmation yet of the rumour that McCain is looking to buy spots on the Monopoly board." (Interestingly, I haven't spotted any online advertising from National, but everywhere you look online I see red ... Anyone spotted an online National ad? Or are they buying the talkback ad spots?)

A reader writes: "If Claire was so alarmed at being asked to carry other people's bags, I certainly wouldn't recommend her going to Samoa, where it's common practice for the locals (usually overloaded with presents for family) to ask tourists (who are usually travelling lighter) at Auckland Airport. I found the whole process a bit scary when first asked and though I've never taken anyone's bag, I now understand the mentality behind it. Samoans are such lovely people that for them it's just an innocent request."
