Police smashed a window to rescue a seemingly unconscious baby from a locked vehicle in Queensland only to find it was a "reborn" baby doll. The embarrassing mistake is not an isolated incident and the passionate creator of the ultra-realistic baby dolls, Vynette Cernik, knows just how easily they can be mistaken for the real thing.
Ms Cernik said she felt sorry for the Gympie police and the members of the public distressed by the situation and suggested owners should put warning cards on the dolls.

The Beijing Catering Trade Association has ordered 112 official Olympic restaurants to pull dog from their menus, in order to avoid outraging the pet-loving foreigners. The BBC says the ban is designed to "respect the habits of many countries and nationalities", and joins spitting on the pavement and queuing in a disorderly fashion on the list of no-nos for the Games.

Auckland City Council spokesman for road safety, John Lister, says the yellow plastic spots on footpaths in the central city are not there to deter skateboarders. The yellow tactile pavers are there to give guidance and greater accessibility for visually impaired pedestrians. He says he is concerned at references that people may have hurt themselves and such instances will be investigated.
