KEY POINTS:
Here's something to refer to next time someone complains of being described as pear-shaped, says Anna Curnow of her fruity find at Warkworth New World. "Funnily enough it was positioned cheeks-out on the top of the pile," she says. "It appeared that people had been carefully picking their pears from around this juicy little morsel. I of course was not so coy. This tasty pear of cheeks (sorry) was mine as soon as I saw it."

Lost shoes: A reader wonders who the gentleman was who arrived at work on Thursday morning without his size 12 shoes? "As I was walking down Potter Ave, Northcote," he says, "I spotted the shoes on the roof of a passing car and watched as they fell off at the bend. Tried in vain to attract the attention of driver but being a pensioner I was no match for the speedy vehicle."
If the shoeless man wishes to email Sideswipe a reconciliation can be arranged.

Amber Dauge says she ran out of the house to meet her school bus while still making a sandwich. When she realised she still had a butter knife, she says, she put it in her book bag and later in her locker at South Carolina's Goose Creek High School. Weeks later, the butter knife fell out of her locker, prompting laughter from some other students. But a teacher who saw the knife wasn't laughing. The teacher told the principal and Dauge was expelled under the school's zero-tolerance policy. (Source: Reason.com)

An anonymous reader received this email yesterday about an impending project at work (all names have been changed to protect the innocent):
"As a first step I have lined up a meeting with Tom and Suzanne for tomorrow morning and a meeting with Brian for tomorrow afternoon. I will set up an ad hoc meeting with the Steering Committee and Fred to discuss the outcomes of these meetings. And we will discuss the outcomes of these meetings on the regular project team meeting on Wednesday. Other meetings with other stakeholders will be scheduled where needed, based on the outcomes and conclusions of the SC and project team meetings. Meanwhile (for the team members), please progress your project tasks as scheduled."
Our source suggests that maybe if there were fewer meetings the project would happen a bit faster.

Mike Trathen writes: "It would serve Steve O'Donnell well in his 'complaint' about Sky TV's coverage of baseball shifting from ESPN to Sky Sport 1 if he actually knew what he was talking about. Any real fan of the game knows it as Major League Baseball. I'd love to know what 'North American Baseball League' games are because, as a fan of the Red Sox for 20 years, I've never heard of, seen live or watched one. Additionally, games have been repeatedly broadcast on Sky Sport (predominantly channels 1 or 2 on Monday afternoons - until NFL games take over - Thursday mornings and afternoons and Saturday mornings) as well as ESPN for years ...
