Lipstick literature
Tyra Banks has announced that she is writing a series of tween fantasy novels. Her first title will be Modelland - the story of a "fantastical place" full of "drop-dead beautiful, kick-butt fierce" beings known as "Intoxibellas" who have superpowers and live in a world "where dreams come true and life can change in the blink of a smoky eye". Heavenly highway
In contrast to our grim reaper bloke spinning the roulette wheel of death at intersections, the Swiss government has hired an actor to dress as an angel and stand in the middle of roads to urge people to drive slowly. The "road angel", who forms part of a safe-driving campaign, will wave and flap his wings at motorists travelling too fast. Let's hope the actor gets danger money. (Source: Fast Company)
Disproving Darwin
Greg Cave used to joke that evolution stopped early in the 1990s and the species was now regressing. "It is not a joke any more - I have proof," he declares. "I saw a young man on a skateboard, wearing dark clothes in the middle of New North Road at 6.30 in the morning."
Signs of stupidity
Bryan Romanes says nine cones and two signs for a one-metre long footpath repair might seem like overkill, but contractors have a legal responsibility to protect people from their own stupidity. "I've seen members of the public move rigid barriers (not just cones) and walk through our work area where there was welding and overhead work being carried out. All because they were too lazy to walk four extra paces to use a clearly marked pedestrian access route. A recent case in Dunedin resulted in a company being fined $40,000 because a person tripped over and broke their arm."
Price of pink
Phil wonders if it has occurred to anyone that Bostik is making probably millions of kilograms of blue Blu-Tack, but probably only thousands of kilograms of pink Blu-Tack and it might cost the company more to make it? ... "With feedback like they're getting here, do you think they'll help out again next year?"
Tower power
Response to yesterday's photo from Air NZ in-flight reel: "I live closer to NZ than I thought ... the 'Auckland Sky Tower' Michael saw featured is right around the corner from my home in Japan! It is called the 'Sky Tower', but is at Higashiyama Zoo, Nagoya."
