An environmental lobby group has resolved to fight a large irrigation scheme in Canterbury despite this week's legal decision against it.
Earlier this year, the Malvern Hills Protection Society went to the Environment Court in a bid to stymie Central Plains Water's plans for a massive irrigation project in inland Canterbury.
However, the judge threw the case out, and the group must now pay 26-thousand dollars in costs including 10-thousand dollars each to Central Plains Water and the Selwyn District Council.
Spokeswoman Rosalie Snoyink said the issues surrounding the water project had not gone away.
She said the group knew it faced a bumpy ride but was resolved to carry on its opposition.
