I was so shocked and saddened to learn of the helicopter crash in Pukerua Bay in which three members of the Royal New Zealand Air Force lost their lives.
I would be most grateful if you would send my deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of Flight Lieutenant Hayden Madsen, Flying Officer Daniel Gregory and Corporal Benjamin Carson and to their friends and colleagues in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, especially those who served alongside them at Royal New Zealand Air Force Base Ohakea.
That this terrible event should occur on the day when the heroism and sacrifice of New Zealanders is particularly remembered seems especially cruel and my thoughts and prayers are with you all at this immensely sad time.
I would also like to send my wishes for a full and quick recovery to Sergeant Stevin Creeggan who survived this tragic event.
