KEY POINTS:
Prime Minister Helen Clark does not expect to discuss the war in Iraq with United States President George W Bush during a rare state visit to Washington later this month.
Miss Clark will meet President Bush during a visit to Washington on March 20-21.
The visit seems part of a continuing thawing of relations, with both countries appearing to concentrate on increased co-operation rather than divisive issues such as the United States-led invasion of Iraq and New Zealand's anti-nuclear policy.
Miss Clark today said she did not expect Iraq would be on the agenda in talks.
"I doubt that Iraq would be on the agenda because we will be focusing in the things where we've worked together and have common objectives. There's a tremendous amount of that," she said today on Newstalk ZB.
Issues likely to feature on the agenda were counter-terrorism, issues relating to the World Trade Organisation's Doha Round of talks, and regional security issues.
The US is New Zealand's second largest trade partner.
