An Iranian chef has been freed after almost two-and-a-half years in a New Zealand jail.
Thomas Yadegary came to New Zealand in 1993 seeking refugee status, but was declined.
He was jailed in 2004 after refusing to sign deportation papers fearing he would be persecuted in his homeland because he converted to Christianity.
Today the High Court in Auckland freed him and he is now living with friends.
Supporter John Minto says all details of the judgement are suppressed while the Crown considers whether to appeal the ruling.
He says the release is great news and the whole situation reflects badly on the Government that kept him locked up.
