An electrical fault in a light fitting is being blamed for a fire that destroyed a shed, part of a deck, and a fence at a house in Grafton yesterday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to the Parkfield Tce house around 12.30pm and found find the fire well under way.
Senior Station Officer Barry Fox of Auckland City said the fire took about 10 minutes to extinguish and another 30 minutes to damp down.
"The cause has been put down to an electrical fault in a light fitting inside the small shed that was located on the deck."
Nobody was home at the time, Mr Fox said.
"If the fire had been left to go, the house probably would have eventually caught on fire ... but we cut it off in time."
