KEY POINTS:
Police are hunting for a sophisticated group believed to have disguised themselves while defrauding Auckland banks of more than $500,000.
The group includes at least two women, one of whom is young and slim, dresses smartly and is believed to have donned a long dark wig to disguise herself before entering one bank in which she was photographed.
The other woman is older and was caught on a bank security camera wearing a pink top, red and black jacket and carrying a black handbag. She also has long dark hair but it is not known if it is a wig or natural.
The number of men in the fraud ring is unclear but at least two surveillance tapes on men wearing caps are possibly of the same person, just wearing different outfits each time as a disguise.
A second man has darker skin than the hat-wearing suspect.
Police could not give much more information about the group or their activities other than to say they are believed to be a sophisticated ring of fraudsters who need to be caught.
Detectives would not elaborate on how the fraud was committed or which banks were targeted.
The fraud has occurred at several Auckland branches in the past few months and is being investigated by the company fraud squad of Auckland City police.
Anyone with any information about the identities or whereabouts of the people caught on the banks' security cameras is asked to contact Detective Kelly Corby on (09) 302-6516.
