KEY POINTS:
Joseph Hill closes everything he can as he splashes into the mud pit beneath the Mega Mud Slide near Opotiki while Amber Gleeson spins around a corner in the specially-dug channel.
A few bumps and bruises are the worst injuries organisers report from more than 2000 daredevils whizzing and sloshing down the slide, the centrepiece of the Opotiki Coast Fun Unplugged programme run by the Opotiki District Council and the Ministry of Youth Development over the summer.
"None of them will lay a complaint. People just love it," Opotiki District Council spokeswoman Donna Adlam says of the holiday-attraction slide. She plans to plunge into the 120m-long chute in an op-shop evening dress, a glittery black satin number.
The slide, on a farm near the Bay of Plenty town, was set up by the council with free help from local contractors and is raising money for community projects.
