Winston Peters is the political leader one in three New Zealanders would want to have choose a new suit or a slinky evening gown.
The New Zealand First leader, who is rarely seen out of a dark double-breasted suit, is twice the fashion guru Prime Minister Helen Clark is, even though she mingles with clothing designers and wears the latest outfits.
A Herald-DigiPoll survey found that while Mr Peters' sartorial ability rated highest among men (41.4 per cent), women also scored him tops (22.5 per cent). Helen Clark won support from just 19.8 per cent of women and 12.4 per cent of men.
Bill English, who choked at paying $159 for a blue silk tie on a visit to a store in Auckland's High St during the election campaign, was chosen by 17 per cent of men and 12.6 per cent of women to do the clothes shopping.
