KEY POINTS:
Neil Morrison's belief in social justice took him first to Parliament and then on to a long stint in local government.
Mr Morrison represented Manukau City's Pakuranga ward since 1989, and chaired the council's economic development committee, an area that he felt very strongly about. He believed that economic growth should be matched by social justice, and that prosperity should be shared amongst all of the community.
He also served the region in civil defence and Watercare roles. Before his election to the council he was the MP for Pakuranga for one term as a member of the Social Credit Party.
Mr Morrison was an active member of the Ulysses Motor Cycle Club and owned several motorbikes. He had even been known to attend council meetings still togged out in his motorcycling leathers.
He is survived by his wife Gabrielle, son, Greg, and daughter, Sally. A service will be held today at 10.30am in the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre, 770 Great South Rd, Manukau.
