Enyth Holdgate, 92, MBE, played a key role in managing nursing services in Auckland and throughout the country. She oversaw the introduction of the extramural hospital concept for community medical services for the former Auckland Hospital Board and supervised the district nursing service for 10 years. Enyth Holdgate headed the Registered Nurses' Association and was the Southeast Asia and Pacific representative for the Commonwealth Nurses Federation.
Born in Dargaville, she married Auckland physician Dr Keith Holdgate. She is survived by his four living children, 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
