KEY POINTS:
An investigation by the Police Complaints Authority has been launched after a patrol car pursuit ended in a crash in Nelson today.
Two people were injured in the Richmond accident.
The 17-year-old driver of the pursued car has been charged with reckless driving and failing to stop for a police car.
Inspector Brian McGurk said a patrol car had signalled for the youth's Honda Integra car to stop on Upper Queen St in Richmond, just after 1pm.
He allegedly failed to stop, and continued through several suburban streets, with the patrol car following about 20 seconds behind.
The Honda failed to give way at an intersection and crashed into a Mitsubishi car being driven a Richmond resident.
The driver of the Honda ran from the scene, leaving an injured passenger in his car.
Mr McGurk said neither car had been speeding during the chase.
The passenger was believed to have a suspected fractured wrist and the driver of the Mitsubishi received chest injuries.
Both were taken to Nelson Hospital by St John Ambulance.
The driver of the Honda handed himself into the Richmond Police Station about 1.25pm.
Mr McGurk said some "items of interest" were found in the man's car and further charges were possible.
The crash has been reported to the Police Complaints Authority.
