Fire Safety inspectors are at a Wellington high school building which was severely damaged by a blaze overnight.
The Fire Service was called to Wainuiomata College, southeast of Lower Hutt city, about 12.20am, central fire communications shift manager David Meikle said.
The unused three-storey building was severely damaged and part of it collapsed because of the fire, he said.
At the height of the blaze there were ten fire appliances at the scene.
One appliance remained at the school this afternoon dampening down hotspots, central fire communications shift manager Tim Rees said.
The cause of the fire was not known.
