An investigation is underway after a five-year-old boy was run over by a trailer in a driveway in Pokeno, south of Auckland, and killed.
It's understood the boy and a sibling were riding on the trailer which was carrying a small digger and being towed by a four-by-four vehicle, when the incident happened around 4pm yesterday.
Safekids Aotearoa director Ann Weaver says generally the age of children killed in driveways is around two or three.
"It is unusual to have a child of this age in this kind of scenario.''
Weaver says five children have been killed in driveway accidents in the past six months.
