An investigation is underway after a seven-year-old girl was trapped on a Tranz Metro train as it pulled away from her mother, north of Wellington on the weekend.
Emma du Fresne was getting her two younger children off the train at Pukerua Bay on Saturday and turned to help her daughter Alyana when the doors slammed on her hand, the Dominion Post reported.
A woman on the train travelled with Alyana back to her mother in a taxi, which Tranz Metro paid for, Ms du Fresne said.
Ms du Fresne said she and her children got off the train as soon as the doors opened and there were no other passengers getting off and no-one checking the doors.
Tranz Metro said it was looking into the incident as normal procedure was for a staff member to check everyone off the train safely before signalling it to continue.
"That's something we need to look into carefully," spokesman Nigel Parry said.
