A toddler died on Saturday when a television and chest of drawers fell on him as he tried to climb on to a coffee table.
Detective Sergeant Grant Johnstone of Invercargill police said the boy was trying to climb on the small table which supported a chest of drawers and an older tube television when they fell on him on Saturday morning.
The boy was taken to Southland Hospital where he died later on Saturday.
Mr Johnstone said the incident was similar to another incident in the city in which a 16-month-old boy was crushed by a television on a chest of drawers.
The boy needed weeks of treatment in Auckland's Starship Hospital.
