An Invercargill man has died as a result of a work place accident.
Emergency services were called to the Mainfreight Transport depot on Spey Street this morning.
Sergeant Deon McNaught says the 53-year-old man was in the process of unloading freight from a truck and trailer unit when a large steel beam fell from the trailer.
The beam struck the man pinning him to the ground and he suffered severe crush injuries to his upper body.
Sergeant McNaught says despite efforts made by fellow staff members and emergency services, the man died at the scene.
