Invercargill deputy mayor stays on

Invercargill Mayor Tim Shadbolt has lost his bid to sack his deputy. Mr Shadbolt attempted to force out long-serving Deputy Mayor Neil Boniface at a council meeting last month. The mayor said he had lost confidence in his deputy and wanted to replace him.

Mr Boniface yesterday secured his job following a vote at a special council meeting.
