"We also have two amazing motoring museums; Transport World and Motorcycle Mecca, not to mention the fantastic southern food served here from some award winning cafes," Graber told Fairfax.
"If budget constraints were a consideration there are plenty of awesome attractions which cost nothing: Southland Museum & Art Gallery offers the opportunity to see tuatara, and it's on the edge of Queens Park, where there are stunning winter gardens and the aviary. It's also a very short drive to Oreti Beach, or to Bluff, where there is amazing scenery and plenty of bush walks on offer.
"There really is something for everyone - it's a pity that these people didn't get the chance to really appreciate our great city."
Rowling said she tried to stay positive about it when they arrived at the airport and found out where they were going but as soon as they arrived at their accommodation she knew the trip had turned into a disaster.
"I said to Stu 'What the F is this?' I actually burst into tears because I'd been looking forward to it since June. Then we got to the accommodation and, looking it from the outside; I said 'oh my God'," Rowling told Fairfax.
It turned out the central city accommodation was only three-to-four star.
"Because you're buying a four-to-five-star package it's not what you expect."
She told her partner that she would not be staying in the apartment so they contacted Air New Zealand to complain.
Rowling claimed the staff member she spoke to said she couldn't help so the couple decided to leave Invercargill for Queenstown, where they paid about $210 for a hotel room.
Air New Zealand had since offered a full refund for the trip.
Anna Cross, the external communications consultant for the airline, said: "We're really sorry this Mystery Break didn't meet the customer's expectations and have offered a full refund as a gesture of goodwill."
