The three little pigs can't fly, but the three not-so-little blue whales certainly can.
A 30m blue whale kite and two smaller "baby" ones measuring 8m and 16m will take to the skies at the Manu Aute Kite Day in Auckland tomorrow.
The family event at Orakei Marae, Bastion Pt, will also act as a finale to this year's Matariki Festival.
The blue whale kites are designed by Simon Chisnall, of Ashburton-based Peter Lynn Kites, and this will be the first time they'll be flown here.
"The idea is to fly them all at the same time like a pod of whales," a spokesman for the festival said.
