Police are contacting Interpol to check the background of a Swedish tourist suspected of spiking drinks at a Napier bar.
Three patrons and a staff member were admitted to hospital last Saturday after they collapsed and began convulsing, dry-retching and vomiting at Cri Bar.
A 29-year-old man has appeared in Nelson District Court charged with one count of indecent assault and four of administering a Class B controlled drug.
He has interim name suppression.
