Bill Urale, aka Hip Hop artist King Kapisi, has been made youth culture and Pasifika ambassador for the Internet Mana Party.
The musician had initially put his name down to stand as a candidate for the party, but decided he would prefer to work "on the ground", getting young people interested in politics.
"Politics is not for me right now but political change is. My passion remains strong to have a change in our current government, so I've agreed to get involved as Internet Mana's youth culture and Pasifika ambassador," Mr Urale said in a statement.
"I'll be taking the 'vote Internet Mana' message to our people and inspiring them to get out and have their say on September 20."
He will lead events aimed at encouraging south and west Aucklanders to go to the polling stations on general election day.
