The work of a world famous German photographer is on display in Masterton - the only place in New Zealand to show the exhibition.
From today the Aratoi Museum is showing the work of Sibylle Bergemann, before it heads overseas again.
The photographs belong to the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations with Germany which, with the Goethe Institute, aims to promote artistic exchange between different countries.
Bergemann, who died in the 2010, is renowned internationally for her photos which provide social commentary on different parts of the world. She covered a range of subjects, including fashion, politics, landscapes and portraiture and many of her photos are everyday people doing ordinary things.
Former Aratoi director Marcus Boroughs said he had requested the show from the institute while still at Aratoi and was surprised to hear his application was approved. "They've been generous enough to bring the show across from Australia," he said.
