KEY POINTS:
The number of international guests staying at accommodation in New Zealand dropped by 8 per cent in July compared with the same month last year, a New Zealand accommodation survey has found.
But the loss of income was partly offset by a two per cent rise in the number of domestic guest nights, Statistics New Zealand (SNZ) said.
The total number of both domestic and international guest nights decreased by 46,000, or two per cent.
SNZ said Auckland and Otago recorded the largest decrease in international guest nights, but the largest increase in domestic guest nights.
"Guest nights decreased in four of the five accommodation types in July 2008 compared with July 2007," SNZ said.
