The Lady Stout Cup, the interclub friendly against Heretaunga was competed for last Friday 21st at Royal Wellington. It was fitting that this was held on the Queens actual birthday.
The course was in magnificent condition, a fine display of autumn leaves, very thick rough and lightning greens with slippery slopes. The hosts were friendly, the lunch delightful, unfortunately the golf for some a nightmare, coming in second was not such a surprise.
Our star player with the most stableford points and making us proud with 34 was Bindy Mc Leod. Most of team wore their uniform and for those who didn't including Head girl -Course Beautification and Silverware cleaning.
Martinborough hosted the fourth round of the Marquis Shield in splendid conditions, winning their fixture against Masterton 7/5. Good wins to the sitters Lance Phelps and Lyall Callaghan, the stayers Ash Reed, Darren O Dwyer and Bob Goodley and the steadies Peter Hudson and Neil Smith. A couple of you have to get to bed earlier next time!
Congratulations to Carterton with a fantastic win 10 ? to 1 ?, they now lead the competition - you obviously enjoyed our wonderful course.
Juniors
The Juniors under the tutelage of Bill Jones are coming along nicely, with numbers building. Bill and Jamie Mac Isaac are running a session this Sunday morning for them. It would be great to have enough numbers and support to enable the club to have a team in the junior pennants for next season.
Weekend
Saturdays medal and putting star was Peter Bain. Blitzing the field with a PB 70 to arrive in with a Nett 62 and complimenting his game with 28 putts!
Great game Peter.
Lyall Callaghan, having a round before the interclub match nett 68, and selector/manager Bill setting a good example nett 69.
Twos to the usuals Terry Blacktop, Lance Phelps, Ian Henderson and Bob Goodley, who must have so many in the Christmas drawer, they will be able to decorate the tree with them.

Thursday Club
If you ever wondered where the baker, the butcher and there is probably a candlestick maker along with the furniture maker, grocer, builder, winemaker, plumber, retiree banker, school teacher and dentist, not to mention numerous farmers go on Thursday afternoon, well they go to Boundary Road to see the effervescent George webby, swing some clubs and consume Megs delectable delights. There are even card games on offer.
Last Thursday I gate crashed the exclusive Thursday Club with my military dentist, arriving at 1pm in time to sneak in mid field. There were some pretty good scores, Lance toying with George's emotions, having a cracking round of 63 (highlights 12 birdies on the Par 4s, slides bogeying the 9th and 18th).
Matt Thomas, on the 15th tee upon listening to the writer telling her partner on the 17th fairway what a great driver he is, duly obliged, by smacking one over the trees to land just short of the green.
The day however belonged to the Smiths, yes there are four of them Bob, Neil, who commented that if you are to play on this sacred day you should use the Mens tee, his sons Pete (who didn't make the Ladies one on Bull Hill), and the younger Rob, all in the prize money.
Nearest the Pin going to David Kershaw who easily converted it with a two.
