Wairarapa will compete at senior level on the inter-provincial hockey stage this season.
Plans are in place for them to enter the national women's tournament in Wellington in September with Nigel Goodin in the coaching role.
Goodin currently coaches the Dalefield side which has qualified for the semi-finals of the Wellington premier division competition.
They are drawn to play top qualifiers, Eastern Hutt, at the National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.
Several the Dalefield team will, of course, be front runners for the Wairarapa side but Goodin is also hopeful of being able to call on some former local players now playing outside the region. That situation is made possible through the eligibility rules.
"We have been doing a bit of ringing around to see who could be available and things are looking pretty encouraging, "Goodin said yesterday.
