KEY POINTS:
A man who worked in intelligence in the Gulf war and Northern Ireland is to head a new national intelligence office established at Police National Headquarters in Wellington.
Welshman Mark Evans worked as an intelligence specialist for the British Government during the first Gulf war and in Northern Ireland from 1993 as the head of research and intelligence in the terrorist finance unit, which tackled paramilitary racketeering.
"It's my intention to look at what works well already - and improve it - and critically review those areas in which we need to do better," Mr Evans told the police Ten One magazine.
