Disgraced former Maori Television Service chief executive John Davy drew up a code of conduct for the fledgling channel.
He published the code in early March, and in an accompanying letter writes of the need for employees to comply with the rules.
"Nominal compliance ... is not enough to reach Maori TV's objective of high standards of integrity through consistent ethical practice," his letter says.
He ends by saying: "Please read the Code of Conduct with the great care that it deserve (sic)." Then, in bold letters: "Maori TV - and your - reputation depend upon it."
Mr Davy's 13-page code sets out the service's objectives and policies. The five specific objectives include to "demonstrate high standards of integrity in all phases of our business".
Policies are set out covering sexual harassment, workplace security and conflicts of interest. The drugs and firearms section says: "The possession or use of illegal drugs on Maori TV premises is not permitted at any time. Firearms will be permitted on Maori TV property only in those areas and circumstances approved by the law enforcement of New Zealand."
Employees would be investigated if a complaint was made that they had breached the code. Should the employee being investigated withhold information, discipline and possibly discharge would follow.
The code is available on the MTS website, http://www.maoritelevision.com
