KEY POINTS:
The Manukau Institute of Technology was damaged by a fire today.
Emergency authorities were alerted to the blaze on the first storey of the two-storey building on Alexander Crescent at 3.30pm, northern fire communications shift manager Megan Ruru said.
She said it took about an hour for seven appliances to get the fire under control.
It has been extinguished.
