Lewis Ayres doesn't know what it's like to have a job - but he's hoping that's about to change.
The Kawerau beneficiary was booted out of school at 15, started a bunch of courses and fathered two sons.
Those boys have motivated the 22-year-old's latest decision - he's moving to Hamilton this month, where he hopes to train as a chef and, for the first time, support his family himself.
Leaving his family isn't easy, but Ayres knows it's for the best as he's been job hunting for four years.
"It's got to be done. There's nothing really in this town. I want to give [my kids] everything I have, but that's nothing at the moment. That's not what they deserve."
