A New Zealand soldier serving in Afghanistan died after taking his own life, an inquest has found.
Corporal Douglas Charles Hughes, 26, had been stationed in Bamiyan Province when he died on April 3, last year.
"I find that his death was a suicide," Coroner Gordon Matenga has concluded.
The coroner was also satisfied that the causes and circumstances surrounding the Northland soldier's death have been dealt with by the investigation and Court of Inquiry held by the New Zealand Defence Force between April 5 and May 4, last year.
