A three day inquest into the death of samurai sword attacker and convicted killer Antonie Dixon gets underway today.
He died in Paremoremo's Auckland Prison in February 2009, the day before he was to be re-sentenced.
The inquest is being held so the Coroner can determine how Dixon died, but it's understood prison officials found him in his cell with self inflicted injuries.
The day after, he was to be sentenced for a P-fuelled night of violence in 2003, which included a samurai sword attack on Renee Gunbie and Simone Butler and the murder of James Te Aute.
His first convictions were quashed in 2007 by the Court of Appeal, but the following year he was found guilty again at a retrial.
