National MP Paul Quinn's private members bill which would prevent all prison inmates from voting in general elections is set to reach select committee stage tonight.
Prisoners serving a sentence of three years or more are prevented from registering as a voter.
Mr Quinn's Electoral Amendment Bill (Disqualification of Convicted Prisoners) seeks to extend that to those serving a sentence of less than three years as was the case before the Electoral Reform Act 1993.
