KEY POINTS:
A serial stalker jailed for harassing women has posted a threatening letter from inside Auckland Prison, warning a woman her "payback is coming".
The prisoner, who has multiple convictions for stalking women and has been described by a psychiatrist as a "social terrorist", last week posted a letter to Heidi Wishart, wife of Investigate magazine editor Ian Wishart, the couple says.
The mail, addressed to the Wisharts' Auckland post office box, has been handed to police.
The prisoner said in the letter that he had photos of Heidi Wishart in "compromising positions" that magazines would pay "top dollar" for. He warned: "The biggest mistake you ever done was do a story about me and my people. I've been waiting seven years for pay back... Payback is coming."
The Wisharts say the prisoner is upset about an article in Investigate which detailed his criminal past.
The man was sentenced in 2004 for attempting to pervert the course of justice and breaching a protection order. It is understood he has a Parole Board hearing later this year.
Ian Wishart said he would meet detectives this week to discuss the letter and the possibility the man could soon be released. He is demanding to know why Corrections officials allowed the letter to be sent. "How the heck can someone do this from inside Paremoremo?"
Corrections' northern regional manager Warren Cummins said last night that as a result of the Wisharts' complaint, the man's mail would now be screened.
