KEY POINTS:
The MetService say s temperatures in the interior of the South Island are again likely to hit the high 20s today.
Warm, mostly dry and sunny conditions were expected over the next week in eastern districts from Bay of Plenty to Central Otago.
"It's all due to New Zealand being an anticyclone-friendly region at the moment," MetService spokesman Bob McDavitt said.
Warm dry air was likely to linger until the anticyclones moved away, which was expected to happen late in November.
"When the wind flow over the South Island turns northwest, as today, temperatures in inland Otago and Canterbury soar."
But he warned the fine weather was also bringing very high ultra violet levels as well.
