A woman who spent the night on Aoraki/Mount Cook with a crushed foot has been flown to hospital.
The 40-year-old Wanaka woman was in a group of four who called for help about 10pm after a rock fell on her foot, crushing it and causing moderate leg injuries, Senior Constable Brent Swanson of Tekapo police said.
A helicopter with night-vision equipment left Christchurch at 10.37pm but poor weather hampered the rescue attempt, which had to be called off.
The climbing party was flown off the mountain at 6.50am today, Mr Swanson said.
