A 60-year-old female tramper has been rescued this morning after injuring herself while trekking in the Nelson area.
The 60-year-old Aucklander, who suffered a hip injury slipping on tussock, was rescued from the Angelus Hut on the Cascade Track, between Lakes Rotoroa and Rotoiti in the Nelson Lakes National Park, she after set off a personal locator beacon.
The Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand (RCCNZ) received the beacon activation about 8.30am and the Nelson rescue helicopter was dispatched.
The helicopter reached the woman about 10am, and she was taken to Nelson Hospital.
This morning, RCCNZ had also coordinated the transfer of a 75-year-old American man from the cruise ship Marina in Milford Sound to Dunedin Hospital after he fell ill on board.
