A man in his 60s was airlifted this morning by the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter after injuring his leg negotiating uneven terrain.
The man from Milton was tramping with his son through the Richmond Ranges area, 35km south east of Nelson. The pair activated an emergency locator beacon at Hunters Hut after 8am.
Tim Douglas-Clifford, base manager and pilot for the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter, said the man was treated at the hut by the intensive care paramedic and was flown to Nelson Hospital for further assessment.
