A possum hunter who badly cut himself in the Urewera National Park was fortunate Department of Conservation staff were on hand to radio for help.
Tenon Rescue Helicopter spokesman Barry Vincent said paramedics were notified about 2pm yesterday that the man had cut several fingers with a knife.
The alarm was raised through the department's radio service staff, who happened to be with the man at the time of the accident and the victim was flown to Tauranga Hospital with moderate injuries.
