A 64-year-old Timaru port worker was seriously injured after he was trapped beneath a container for an hour and a half yesterday.
The man was working alone when it appeared a container fell on top of his forklift.
Chief executive Jeremy Boys said the man had serious but not life-threatening injuries and was taken to Timaru Hospital.
"There is little I can say about how the accident occurred until we have had a thorough investigation.
"We will be carrying out an internal investigation and OSH is also looking at it."
