KEY POINTS:
A mountain biker was airlifted out of the Whirinaki Forest, northeast of Taupo, last night after falling from his bike during an organised ride.
The Taupo-based Lion Foundation Rescue Helicopter was called in to help find and then airlift the 35-year-old biker who received hip and leg injuries in the fall.
Once he was spotted about 7pm, a paramedic and police search and rescue crew had to be long-lined in to the densely forested site to stabilise the man before he was flown to Rotorua Hospital.
He is in a stable condition.
