Nelson police are appealing to the public for information after a man on crutches was repeatedly stabbed outside a police station early this morning.
The 22-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in the head, face, throat and shoulders about 12.30am outside the Richmond police station, 12km southwest of Nelson, Detective Pat Nally of Nelson CIB said.
The victim was walking along the street on crutches and was accompanied by a woman when he was attacked. His injuries were not life-threatening and he was treated at Nelson hospital and discharged.
Mr Nally was particularly keen to speak to two men and a woman present during the attack. The trio were known to have been drinking at the Star and Garter Hotel earlier in the night, he said.
He also urged anyone who witnessed the incident, or knew anything about it, to contact police.
"We're very keen to get this resolved quickly and would encourage those three people to come forward immediately," he said.
