A man who dislocated his hip on Mt Ruapehu this morning was flown to hospital.
The Palmerston North rescue helicopter was called to the Rangipo Hut early this morning, where a man from Pukekohe, aged in his late 60s, was injured.
Chopper base manager pilot Chris Moody said it appeared the man dislocated his hip as his tramping party was preparing to head out for the day.
A St John Ambulance intensive care paramedic aboard the chopper stabilised the man at the scene.
The man's tramping mates helped lift him into the helicopter and he was flown to Taupo Hospital in a stable condition.
