A man has been rescued after suffering a serious leg injury while hunting on Stewart Island yesterday.
Senior Sergeant Maggie Windle of Invercargill police said the 56-year-old was hunting with two others in the Doughboy Bay area when he suffered the injury around 6pm.
She said the man activated a locator beacon and the Rescue Coordination Centre dispatched a Rakiura helicopter.
"He had hired this beacon and this was of great assistance in the rescue."
The man is now receiving medical attention.
