A hunter who fell down a ridge and broke his leg has been found after a freezing night on a South Island mountain.
The 52-year-old went missing on Mount Fortune near Oamaru yesterday, and search and rescue teams could not find him last night.
The search resumed this morning and he was spotted by a rescue helicopter, said Inspector Murray Hurst of the police southern communications centre.
"He had fallen down a ridge and had a badly broken leg."
Ground search and rescue teams were with the hunter this morning and they were waiting for a helicopter to winch him out.
