A Dutch hiker had to be helicoptered from Mt Tongariro yesterday after falling and cutting herself badly.
Taupo-based Lion Foundation Rescue said a helicopter was sent to Mt Tongariro about 3pm after the 53-year-old Dutch woman hurt her right knee.
She was about half an hour's walk from completing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing when she fell down steps in the forest.
