Injured flown to Wellington Hospital from Chathams

A mercy dash has taken three people injured in a car smash on the Chatham Islands to Wellington.

The Life Flight air ambulance flew the two men and a woman to Wellington Hospital, where they are being treated for multiple injuries.

All three were thrown from a four-wheel drive which rolled.

Meanwhile, one man is dead and two others are in Palmerston North Hospital following an early morning road smash.

Police say the vehicle went off the road into a paddock at Marton, just before four o'clock.
